Graduate students and recent unemployed PhDs (2015 to present) whose individual abstract or panel paper has been accepted and who will be attending the 2019 Symposium and will incur travel costs are eligible for grants of approx. $300 from the MGSA and its sponsors. Those from the host institution or from other universities in or near the host city who do not incur travel costs will be excluded.

Final decisions about financial support are made at the discretion of the Graduate Studies Committee Chair after consultation with the Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee. Co-presenters may share the VISA gift card issued by the MGSA, which will be handed to presenters on site when they pick up their registration materials.

The 2019 MGSA Symposium Local Arrangements Committee is pleased to announce the availability of travel grants for individuals presenting a paper in Sacramento.
There are 25 grants in the amount of either $1,000.00 or $750.00 to help offset the costs for travel and accommodations at the symposium. Candidates for the travel grants are individuals coming from outside of North America and who have either a part-time or full-time position at a university, archive, or research center outside of Canada and the United States. Graduate students are not eligible for the travel grants as they are encouraged to apply for the MGSA Graduate Student Grants.
To apply, please provide the following:
Applications for the travel grant should be made by April 1, 2019. The Symposium Travel Grants awardees will be notified by May 15, 2019. All travel grant stipends will be distributed at the conference in Sacramento at the time of registration. MGSA membership is not a requirement at the time of submitting a paper or panel. However, once presentations have been accepted, presenters are required to become members by June 1, 2019.
